Immanuel Lutheran Church
Welcome to Immanuel! Worship begins at 9:30 am on Sundays. Due to COVID-19, there are some aspects of the service that are eliminated, such as music and Children's Church. Please wear a mask at all times, and practice social distancing. At Immanuel we’re followers of Jesus, who love each other & those around us. We’re child friendly. And we offer casual worship, using both traditional & contemporary forms of music. Our building is handicapped accessible. To attend worship, please enter through the front entrance on Laurens Street.
PLEASE JOIN US IN-PERSON FOR WORSHIP IF YOU WISH! Our building is set up for social distancing so that you will stay safe. Every other row is taped off, so you will be six feet away from those in rows in front or behind you. PASTOR'S WEEKLY MESSAGE CAN BE VIEWED ONLINE! Our sister congregation, St. Joh's Lutheran Church in Allegany, NY, posts the weekly message at http://www.stjohnsallegany.com

Pastor Derek came to Immanuel in 2004. We have made many changes under his leadership. Our focus has become centered on following Jesus in our everyday lives. We seek to be a blessing to real people in our world. To make these goals reality, we have structured the style of our services to reflect the diversity of those who worship with us in our present day. We strive to faithfully blend the best of the past with the best of the present in ways that are easy for all to embrace. We have renovated our worship space to ensure that it is both reverent of God and welcoming to guests. Recognizing that we live in more relaxed times than days-gone-by, our worship is casual, without being a “pep rally.”
Pastor Derek’s sermons often involve dialogue with the congregation (but don’t worry, he doesn't “call on” people!). We typically follow the Church’s lectionary reading schedule, to ensure we cover most of the Bible’s main themes over the course of 3 years. We also have several small groups which meet throughout the week to facilitate learning and fellowship.
Our musicians play both contemporary and traditional music during most services. Vocalists and instrumentalists are welcome to join them.
The traditional choir sings at selected services throughout the year. Vocalists are also welcome to join them. Announcements are made in church when rehearsals are called. A special Children's Church is a part of every worship service—children attend the first and last parts of the service with their families, and have a special worship and message in the middle that is tailored to their needs and interests. Children are also welcome to remain in the regular worship service with their families. Occasionally, children help lead the service too!
Immanuel practices early Communion. However, if you have children who are not ready to participate, you are encouraged to bring them to receive a blessing from Pastor.
